In Moscow, at the international conference “Technologies & Trust: Security and Identification”, an electronic passport with innovative security features has been presented.
The range of security features of an electronic identity document includes individualized holographic images of the owner's portrait, signature, document number, and machine-readable code. This technological solution distinguishes the new document from the current passport of a Russian citizen, which uses a general holographic image in passport design. A brand-new technology of creating a holographic portrait has been jointly developed by specialists from GOZNAK and KRYPTEN.
The electronic ID document incorporates a colour holographic portrait of the owner, which duplicates the colour photographic image and corresponds in size to the main portrait. Being originated in the inner layers of the document the holographic image cannot be re-personalized or extracted from the document without violating its integrity. The holographic portrait covers almost the entire area with personal data while maintaining the visibility of the personal information.
The individualization of each document by using the owner's data in the design of security elements, GOZNAK states, creates robust security of the document against counterfeiting or data change. The use of holographic features ensures intuitive authentication both by non-specialists and experts.
KRYPTEN in cooperation with partners from GOZNAK has been developing holographic security elements for Russian banknotes and passports. In particular, the current Russian biometric passport exhibits OVDs created by KRYPTEN. We analyze global trends to offer holographic technologies for next-generation security.
